Pennsylvania Guide for Families

Project Summary:

"The Pennsylvania Guide for Families" is based on the Health Research for Action parent guide model. This model has shown effectiveness in reaching diverse parent populations nationwide. It uses best practices in health communication and health literacy. The guide was distributed to new parents throughout Pennsylvania and features many state initiatives and programs.

The guide is organized developmentally, so that parents can quickly find the information that is relevant to their child’s age, from birth to five years. It covers pregnancy, birth, child development, choosing childcare, and health and safety issues. Parents are linked to websites and toll-free phone numbers where they can find more information or assistance.
