Parents Guide (California)

Project Summary:

The Parents Guide is a research-based, user-friendly resource for parents. It is based on best practices in health communication and health literacy. Over three million guides for families have been distributed nationwide. It was developed in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean, and distributed to new parents throughout California by the California Children and Families Commission.

The guide is organized developmentally, so that parents can quickly find the information that is relevant to their child’s age, from birth to five years. It covers pregnancy, birth, child development, choosing childcare, and health and safety issues. Parents are linked to local resources, websites, and toll-free phone numbers where they can find more information or assistance.
