Oral Health Literacy Project

HRA has partnered with the California Department of Public Health's Office of Oral Health on a multiyear, multimodal project to assess the health literacy of oral healthcare providers in the state.    Phase 1 was focused on formative research about the state of oral health literacy in California. HRA interviewed providers about their knowledge of oral health literacy and communication strategies and identified barriers to effective communication. HRA also conducted a literature review and environmental scan, assessing the types and quality of oral health materials available to providers.   Using the data from this research, HRA developed and tested a suite of educational materials for oral healthcare providers, aimed at helping them create practices that are more welcoming and empowering for patients.
